Cultivating and Fostering
We are committed to growing and celebrating diversity, increasing fairness throughout our organization, and intentionally creating environments where differences are embraced and everyone feels welcome, respected, supported, and valued on and off the pitch.
MLQ is committed to a culture of inclusion and opportunity. We strive to create equity by providing resources specific to the needs of our community. In the context of quadball, diversity is the invitation to our sport, inclusion is making sure our sport is welcoming and equity is ensuring all community members have what they need to be successful.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion is critical to achieving the mission of MLQ: to establish a tradition that embodies the competitive spirit of quadball and to be a league our members, fans and home cities will point to with pride.
As a premier quadball league, we are steadfast in our commitment to identify and lead in reducing barriers, to create and culminate opportunities for inclusion and to increase fairness. We strive to have the demographics of our country be reflected in our league from the players to the leadership to the fans.

No matter where you are or who you are with, you should be able to enjoy your MLQ experience. We foster top-tier competition across the gender and sexuality spectrum in the U.S. and Canada. We continue to push for more diverse racial representation by spotlighting the perspectives and experiences of Black and non-Black athletes of color. We empower the future generation of quadball by creating spaces for newer athletes to succeed while playing, officiating and managing all aspects of the season. MLQ strives to create a diverse and inclusive environment in which everyone can participate.

Diversity and excellence go hand in hand for MLQ and diverse cultural perspectives inspire creativity and drive innovation. In the MLQ structure, athletes play, officiate and volunteer using drive and talent they’ve fostered and demonstrated throughout their quadball careers. MLQ continues developing these athletes’ talents by joining them with new peers across the U.S. and Canada. Incorporating different folx from different backgrounds enables us to continue excellence through diversity. Diverse athletes from different backgrounds allow the league to be excellent.

MLQ defines inclusivity as valuing individual differences in athletes and volunteers and creating a feeling of welcomeness and acceptance. We encourage our volunteers to speak up and contribute their opinions and ideas but to also listen and learn. MLQ hosted events are created on the principle that all folx, from players and volunteers to partners and spectators, feel welcomed and supported on-site and in host cities.

MLQ is constantly striving to further our community’s knowledge and understanding of diversity. Some highlights from our current efforts include the requirement that all franchise leadership complete Champions of Inclusion, the first free, comprehensive online curriculum for coaches on LGBTQI2SA+ respect and inclusion within athletics. In an effort to begin to address league coach gender representation and gender discrimination within the sport of quadball, MLQ introduced the Coleman Clause in 2019. Taking representation one step further, MLQ’s People Operations team is currently working on a similar clause aimed at expanding racial diversity in franchise leadership.
