Quad Quips: Week Three

Submissions undergo light copy editing for clarity.

MLQ athletes have a lot to say and now we’re giving them space to broadcast those opinions weekly. “Quad Quips” is a series consisting of player thoughts and feelings from around MLQ. Each week a randomly-selected batch of athletes are sent a number of questions and prompts for which to respond. The majority are open-ended though multiple choice surveys are sometimes included.

Week Three Survey Results: Which pair will finish the Series of the Week with a better combined +/-?

Tessa Mullins and Tate Kay (NYC): 78.6 percent of votes

Max Havlin and Lulu Xu (BOS): 21.4 percent

The last time the New Orleans Curse and League City Legends met, Hayden Boyes scored 9 goals and Charlton Tramel scored 12 goals, securing the leading scorer titles for each of their teams in the series. Who do you have scoring the most goals this time around?

We’ve moved fields this season, but we’re sure the New Orleans Wasps would’ve had something to say about this.

The Field: 42.9 percent

Hayden Boyes (LC): 28.6 percent of votes

Charlton Tramel (NO): 28.6 percent

Who is the player to watch this weekend and why?

“For fans? Drew Stroud pulling three flags. For League City? The back of my jersey since that's all they'll see anyways.” - Charlton Tramel, New Orleans Curse

“Molly Potter will drop the hammer on Boston for New York–watch out.” - Ryan Leary, New York Titans

“Josh Mansfield. He always puts on a beater masterclass.” - Marcellus Lewis, New Orleans Curse

“Devin Lee. If NYC wants to put away this feisty Boston team, Lee must play to his full potential. His highs are extremely high, but sometimes he’s just another guy.” - Tom DeMouth, Boston Forge

“Carson Running, NO vs LC. The tallest player on NO. at well over 6 feet, is going into his third year for Curse and has simply been cooking. With his size, skill, and intelligence, he’s one of the only players in the league who could follow in PJ Mitchell’s footsteps.” - Veronica Spicer, New Orleans Curse

“Sigh. It has to be Josh Johnson’s New York debut. Going to be a fantastic show.” - Justin Kraemer, Washington Admirals

“Andrew Steinberg is an up-and-coming player for Boston and the question for this series is can he hang with the physical New York team.” - Zach Reiken, Ottawa Black Bears

Which player matchup deserves all eyes this weekend? Why?

“Swathi Mannem (LC) vs. whoever’s foolish enough to stand in her way.” - Tom DeMouth, Boston Forge

“Stephen Trempel (BOS) vs Mohammed Haggag (NYC). Both are elite seekers and expect all 3 games to come down to flag catch differential.” - Krish Jain, Washington Admirals

“Josh Johnson vs. Ian Scura (BOS). Those two have the best shots in the entire sport and some of the best footwork too. I’m excited to see a series that could focus a lot on those two getting through their opponents, into space, and floating some shots in.” - Brandon Kubena, League City Legends

“Tessa Mullins and Tate Kay vs. Max Havlin and Lulu Xu is definitely the match up to watch.” - Zach Reiken, Ottawa Black Bears

“Ian Scura vs. Josh Johnson–both great offensive players. All comes down to team chemistry, defense, and which team widens the gap in momentum shifting opportunities.” - Alex Vega, Austin Outlaws

This week’s Series of the Week is the Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Boston Forge vs. New York Titans. Give us your thoughts.

“🥱” - Sarah Kneiling, New Orleans Curse

“Thoughts? I don't think about them at all.” - Molly Potter, New York Titans

“It will live up to the billing, a knock down drag out fight with the 1 seed in the east as the prize. Odds: Titans -150 Forge +200 and I’m taking the underdogs every time.” - Tom DeMouth, Boston Forge

“Titans are gonna sweep Forge. Both teams are talented but Titans have waaay more depth. It’ll be really interesting to see the Titans’ rookies play against their old teammates/rivals from their time in MQC.” - Zachary Armantrading, New York Titans

“New York with the sweep 🧹 but wouldn't be surprised with Boston taking one game from the series.” - Alex Vega, Austin Outlaws

“I think this was a good one to pick. This will probably be THE marquee matchup of the summer, so it makes sense that it will be getting the best media coverage.” - Brandon Kubena, League City Legends

Whip out the magic 8 ball and give us your Week Three predictions that you have not already provided.

“Hayden Boyes will score more than the top scorer for Curse. Overall, I would give the series to NOLA if the beaters can capitalize on opportunities… but could also slightly see LC taking one game.” - Alex Vega, Austin Outlaws

“2-1 Curse. Curse is going to take the beating game, if they have a full roster to support the chaser game they can keep close with League City and pull ahead. 3-0 NY with game one within range but not close to the rest of the games.” - Justin Kraemer, Washington Admirals

“I'm going to start getting phone calls from people thinking I'm Wingstop the way I'll be dropping a 20 piece.” - Charlton Tramel, New Orleans Curse

“Lindsay Marella more than doubles her goal total (6) from the Washington series.” - Molly Potter, New York Titans

Taunting is Legal

“I hope some of LC has been running more than their mouths this off season.” - Veronica Spicer, New Orleans Curse

“League City is the only location in MLQ my mom has never heard of, which makes sense because she only watches Championship games.” - Joshua Mansfield, New Orleans Curse

“I’m unavailable this weekend 🤧” - Brandon Kubena, League City Legends

“Y’all gonna remember to bring a team this time?” - Sarah Kneiling, New Orleans Curse

“If I'm in front of you, either send beater help or keep the ball moving, I ain't the one to test.” - Marcellus Lewis, New Orleans Curse

Grab Bag

“The content from MLQ this year has been amazing. Best year yet and it’s only week three.” - Brandon Kubena, League City Legends

“So excited to watch Ryan Leary and Samantha Magner go head to head!!!” - Krish Jain, Washington Admirals

“I’m excited to hopefully see a more diverse playing style with three max! I truly believe the best form of quadball is a strategically sound, intelligent game that doesn’t require winning a physical matchup from every player to be considered successful.” - Veronica Spicer, New Orleans Curse

“I'll give $5 to whoever hits the best celebratory Griddy this weekend.” - Molly Potter, New York Titans
