MLQ Gender Rule Update
Last year's adjustment to the gender policy from two-minimum to the current three-maximum has created some of the most exciting quadball games we’ve seen so far and has successfully introduced more diversity to the field across all of our divisions and teams.
However, we aren’t done yet.
We want to continue to push women to the forefront of MLQ and provide them with the space and opportunity to shine. As such, MLQ Gameplay is amending our existing gender policy (MLQ Rules 3.II.3 abbreviated below). Moving forward, we will continue to require a maximum of three players of a single gender on pitch during the seeker floor, and a maximum of four players of a single gender on pitch with seekers on the field. However, teams will also be required to play at least two women on the pitch at all times.
CURRENT RULE
3.II.3.a - During a seeker floor, a team may not have more than three players who identify as the same gender in play.
3.II.3.b - While the Flag Runner is on pitch, teams may not have more than four players who identify as the same gender in play.
AMENDED RULE - EFFECTIVE FOR 2025 SEASON
3.II.3.a - During a seeker floor, teams may not have more than three players who identify as the same gender in play and must also have at least two women in play.
3.II.3.b - While the Flag Runner is on pitch, teams may not have more than four players who identify as the same gender in play and must also have at least two women in play.
For the purposes of this policy within MLQ, the gender that a player identifies as is considered to be that player’s gender, as indicated in their season tryout registration.
We look forward to seeing how this amended policy will further gender representation on the quadball pitch and will collect feedback on its efficacy from athletes following the completion of the 2025 MLQ season.
