League City Franchise Moves to Houston

MLQ is always striving to expand the reach of its franchises and optimize their opportunities for success. Every offseason, we conduct a thorough evaluation of all existing franchises and explore opportunities for future growth. For the 2025 season, we’re excited to announce a big change: the League City Legends franchise is relocating to Houston and will now be known as the Houston Legends.

Why Houston?

Houston, affectionately known as “Space City”, offers a dynamic and growing community of quadball players, fans, and resources to support the franchise’s continued success. The city is home to a thriving sports culture and has a rich history of innovation and ambition—values that align perfectly with MLQ’s mission. In recent seasons, the number of players from the Houston area has consistently outpaced those from League City, and the relocation allows us to better connect with this vibrant player base and fan community.

Houston boasts an up-and-coming quadball community, led by Sam Houston State University, a standout program showcasing competitive play at the collegiate level. The city’s growing player base has long supported the Legends, making Houston the ideal new home for the franchise to thrive.

Thanking the City of League City

The move to Houston wouldn’t be possible without the incredible foundation built in League City. The Legends have been a cornerstone of MLQ for years, and we owe a special thanks to the League City community for their unwavering support.

We also want to recognize Hank Dugie, a founding member of the League City Legends, for his pivotal role in the franchise’s early days and shaping the team’s legacy. Additionally, the City of League City, Texas who hosted the 2016 and 2017 MLQ Championships – the first-ever national quadball championships west of the Mississippi River – showcasing the sport at its highest level and leaving an indelible mark on MLQ’s history.

What’s Next?

MLQ will begin members of the Legends’ staff to ensure a smooth transition to Houston and to set the Houston Legends up for long-term success. Updates to the team’s social media and the MLQ website are currently ongoing.

Tryout details for the 2025 season will be announced early in the new year. Stay tuned for updates on how to join the 2025 Legends roster!

As we launch this exciting new era, we invite fans from both League City and Houston to join us in supporting the Houston Legends. Together, we’ll make this next chapter truly legendary.
